Welcome to the Adirondack Fire Tower Association. This website is a work in progress: only some of the tabs above are complete.

The Adirondack Fire Tower Association or AFTA is organized exclusively for charitable, educational, and scientific purposes to:

• Promote and enable the effective use of Adirondack fire observation towers for public education purposes, particularly with respect to the character of the Adirondack Park, and the role of the NYS Forest Preserve in a patchwork of protected public and private lands.

• Support local fire tower committees in pursuing their educational and stewardship missions.


• Support and facilitate the partnerships between local committees and the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation on behalf of fire towers located on Adirondack Forest Preserve and those conservation easement lands for which NYS holds a management agreement with the owner.

• Encourage and support the establishment of new committees for fire towers whose preservation is approved by the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation and endorsed by the Adirondack Park Agency.
